Starting the group

Dear Friends,

Greetings! My name is Larry Taylor, and like many of you, I have been personally impacted by cancer. As a caregiver and current patient myself, I understand the emotional challenges that come with it. However, I also know that there is hope, and that’s why I am excited to share with you a new support group for those affected by cancer in the Troy/Montgomery County area.

While going through my own journey with cancer, I realized that there were no personal cancer support resources available in our community. So, along with Gene Griffith, who has personal experience as a caregiver, we have decided to start a support group to fill this gap. Our vision is not only to provide a safe space for patients, caregivers, survivors, and family members to share their experiences and receive support but also to extend our services beyond the meeting room by ministering to those in need wherever they may be.

And as 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 tells us, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” We understand that the challenges faced by cancer patients without proper caregiving are immense. From providing appropriate housing to handling basic life tasks, there is a lot to be done. And unfortunately caregivers themselves often see their health decline faster than their loved ones, making it crucial to provide them with support as well. Our goal is not just to identify areas of service but to work together in personally reaching as many people as possible.

We will be meeting at Troy First Baptist Church every Thursday afternoon between 3-4 PM starting June 18. Direction information is available on our website under the Directions page. All are welcome, and we hope you can join us. Remember, cancer may be a lonely journey, but we are not alone. God is faithful, and His promises remain true. If He is with us, He will never leave us nor give us more than we can handle. What an incredible comfort!

Warmest regards,

Larry
